Stage 1 custom remap
A Stage 1 tune (also called a Stage 1 remap) is when a specialist modifies a car’s engine computer (ECU) to increase its performance, usually without needing to replace major engine components.
How it works.
The tuner adjusts settings such as:
Turbo boost pressure: Increases the pressure of air entering the engine in turbocharged cars.
Fuel delivery: Adjusts how much fuel is injected.
Ignition timing: Optimises when the fuel-air mixture ignites.
Torque limits: Changes electronic restrictions on the engine’s output.
These changes can produce more horsepower (BHP), more torque and stronger acceleration.
How much extra power do you get?
Typical examples vary considerably by engine and the quality of the tune.
Engine type Approximate Stage 1 power gain
Turbo petrol 18–38%
Turbo diesel 18–38%
Naturally aspirated petrol 4–15%
For example, a 190 BHP turbocharged BMW might reach approximately 225–262 BHP with a suitable Stage 1 remap.
Or your friends 2017 R8 v10 plus can go from 610hp-820+ 😉
Does it damage the car?
Not necessarily, provided the tune is well developed for that specific engine and the car is in good condition. However, extra power can increase stress on the turbocharger, clutch, gearbox and engine. This is why basic maintenance such as regular oil changes are recommended.
Remember power to weight is everything and torque is what gives you that pull your looking for!
Engine type Typical Stage 1 torque increase
Turbo petrol +20–40%
Turbo diesel +20–40%
Supercharged petrol +10–25%
Naturally aspirated petrol +2–8%
